Reflections/snoitcelfeR

Reflecting, a good thing to do on a wet day. Turning things around and trying to look at them differently. They are not always what they seem!

I have started trying to work out how my proposed exhibition work advances my practice, it is a linking or drawing together different parts of my practice.

The work is primarily a performance, a performance without audience until viewed online during the exhibition, something else to mull over!.

Exploring the performative part at the moment, it consists of the action of listening and drawing my response to the sounds around me. It is not a notation in the true musical tradition, for example, it is not necessarily repetitive, but it is a notation that has a huge variety of symbols, some of which are repeated. The responses are drawn on blank postcards with Chinese ink and twigs, leaves etc. This creates an immediacy that would be unobtainable if using a pre-determined notation. When drawn, they are posted through the ‘bars’ of the shelter. More of which later.
